Franco Izzo, Ph.D.
Studies & experience: Dr. Izzo graduated as a Molecular Biologist from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2010. He obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Buenos Aires, studying molecular mechanisms of cancer at the Institute of Biology and Experimental Medicine, from the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) in 2015. As a Postdoctoral Associate, in 2016 he joined Dr. Dan Landau’s research group at Weill Cornell Medical College and the New York Genome Center in New York city, where he dedicated his research to applying and developing single-cell sequencing technologies to understand the phenotypic effects of somatic mutations in blood cancer. In January 2024, he joined the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai as Tenure-track Assistant Professor, to develop a research program focused on defining the genetic and epigenetic contributions to therapy resistance in blood cancers through applying and developing new single-cell sequencing technologies.
Hobbies: Former drummer, rookie snowboarder. Love hiking during the fall and barbecuing during the summer.
Future goals: To translate basic scientific findings into more effective therapies, to improve the outcomes of blood cancer patients.
